Key Duty & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with WFP Security staff and/or UNDSS Radio Room to facilitate accurate and efficient security-related information flow following established standard operating procedures.
  • Responsible for monitoring and channelling all radio communications, including tracking of WFP vehicle and staff movement to ensure efficient 24-hour coverage of telecommunications Services.
  • Ensure optimal radio network operations through the implementation of standard operating procedures and the provision of guidelines and training to local radio operators in the region of Assignment.
  • Produce regular and ad hoc reports, including daily radio checks, staff movement reports and assist in preparing and dispatching the summary of security incidents and other information to staff to facilitate accurate, efficient and concise communication and information flow.
  • Provide efficient support and training to users on telecommunications equipment and Procedures including Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS) requirements to ensure effective use of telecommunications equipment.
  • Maintain inventory and provide recommendations for potential improvements to support Efficient planning and keeping WFP telecommunications equipment operational.
  • Create and maintain databases (e.g. lists of call signs, addresses, telephone numbers, wardens, etc.), to ensure accurate information is always available.
  • Follow established emergency response processes and procedures to ensure prompt assistance in case of emergencies.
  • Track mission vehicles and movement and provide a report to the head of security.
  • Equipped new arrival with telecom equipment with basic training and keep log incidents and office daily call office keys.
  • Monitor UHF repeaters, network and vehicle tracking application, programme telecom equipment and assign call signs to new arrival staff.

Desired Experience and Entry into the Role:

  • Official training and/or experience using MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and other WFP software is an advantage. Good knowledge of WFP administrative policies, procedures, a corporate application such as WINGS and good command of English and local language/s
  • Moderate level of knowledge of telecommunication operations, procedures, and high standards. Also have computer literacy, good communication skills with clarity and concisely.
  • Ability to multi-task and respond simultaneously and in a timely fashion to demanding job requirements.
  • Ability to prioritize a heavy workload and demonstrate judgment, initiative, alertness, and emotional stability, especially in emergency situations.

Functional capabilities & Competencies:

  • Keep operationalizing WFP Radio Network 24/7.
  • Track movement of staff 24/7 and arrange basic Radio training on a timely basis.
  • Track WFP vehicles and monitor VHF/UHF repeaters 24/7.
  • Headcount for international staff on the specified timetable with reporting to security unit.
  • Keep update incident logbook with reporting to security unit if needed with less than 5 minutes delay.
  • Provide ICT support and equipment delivery to the new arrival and ensure that no security alert is missed.
  • Achieve 100% security alert sharing with security warden and improve user’s satisfaction ratings by 20% from a security perspective. 

Qualification:

Education:

Completion of secondary school education. Technical training in communication equipment or other work-related areas.

Experience:

Four or more years of progressively responsible work experience in telecommunications/radio operations, information technology, or other relevant fields of work.

Languages:

Fluency (level C) in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different.
