Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Section, the consultant will be responsible for carrying out analytical, technical and operational tasks required for the effective functioning of Technical Clusters under UNCTAD's co-leadership on Critical Energy Transition Minerals, as well as for the effective implementation of the UNCTAD projects "Critical energy transition minerals: Rapid assessment of value addition and diversification capacity in Southern Africa" in Madagascar and "Critical energy transition minerals: Rapid assessment of value addition and diversification capacity in the Democratic Republic of the Congo". Specific tasks include: - Carry out technical and operational activities related to the establishment and functioning of Networks of Experts on Critical Energy Transition Minerals, in line with agreed objectives and modalities. - Coordinate the identification, profiling and technical engagement of experts, including the preparation of background materials and the organization of technical consultations and exchanges. - Analyze, compile, systematize and synthesize technical inputs provided by network experts for use in background notes, issue briefs, and other analytical outputs under staff guidance. - Maintain and update operational documentation related to the network, including expert rosters, thematic coverage, and records of technical activities. - Facilitate the technical organization of meetings, webinars and expert discussions related to CETMs and to the two projects, including the preparation of agendas, summaries and follow‑up notes. - Monitor the functioning of the networks against agreed operational parameters and prepare periodic technical progress notes identifying emerging issues, gaps and lessons learned. - Prepare analytical inputs to the implementation of the two projects mentioned above.

Qualifications/special skills

An advanced University Degree or a Master's in Economics, Finance, International Relations or related areas is required. At least one year of working experience in economic research is required. Work experience in designing research studies and analyzing economic data is required. Work experience in writing economic reports is required. Work experience in conducting assessment of opportunities for value addition and diversification within and beyond commodities value chains is desirable. Work experience in conducting consultations with private sector representatives on opportunities for value addition and diversification is desirable.

Languages

Fluency in written and spoken English and French is required.
