Duties and Responsibilities

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. The internship in the Human Resources Section, Division of Administration, Santiago, will last 6 months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an "as-needed" basis. The intern will be under the supervision of the Chief of the Human Resources Section. Responsibilities: Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background and the internship period. Duties may include: •Supports research activities focused on HR data analysis related issues. •Assists in the compilation of HR related data. •Provides support to maintain databases containing HR related statistics and indicators. •Helps identify errors and inconsistencies in data and proposes solutions. •Assists in the preparation of data sets and other inputs to support the preparation of periodic TOR: 24-Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean-247389-Intern Page 2 of 3 reports and other information products. •Contributes to the search for data visualization tools to develop innovative data products. •Provides support in the preparation of newsletters and other products related to data analysis activities. •Performs other duties as assigned. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background and needs of the Unit at the time of the start of the internship.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Relevant training or practical experience MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint) or similar is required. For this internship, studies in Administration, Human Resources, Data Analytics, Communication and Advertising are preferred.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
