Work Location
This internship is designed to be conducted remotely; thus, the work location is where the applicant resides and is legally allowed to work.
Expected duration
A minimum of two months internship with a possibility of extension of up to a maximum of six months. Both a full-time or a part-time engagement with a minimum 20 work hours per week are possible, depending on the preference of the successful candidate. Desired start date can be from 1 June 2026 through 31 October 2026.
Duties and Responsibilities
This internship is located within the Publication Team of the Treaty Section (TS) in the Office of Legal Affairs (OLA). The intern reports to the English Editor. The intern will support the team with administrative and research tasks. Tasks may include: • Collecting and compiling information on corrigenda and addenda in the United Nations Treaty Series; • Reviewing treaties to harmonize practices across units; • Creating glossaries for common treaty types; • Preparing reports on the publication practice of multilateral treaty depositaries, including the practice of specialized agencies; • Research and draft reports on historical practices to establish guidelines for future practice; • Review preliminary web-publications to ensure completeness and consistency with publication standards.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants at the time of application must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); and (b) Have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent); in a programme related to translation, publishing, document management or another field of study closely related to the work of the Treaty Section.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in spoken and written English and French is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language, i.e. Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish, would be an advantage.
