The Position:
The Supply Chain Assistant is located in the UNFPA Afghanistan Country Office (CO) Area Office in Herat or Mazar, Afghanistan. Internal contacts include the International Operations Manager and the Operations Team, the Humanitarian Coordinator and Humanitarian Team, the Programme Team, and the Area office team. For international procurement of programme supplies channeled through the Supply Chain Management Unit in Copenhagen (SCMU), the Supply Chain Assistant works closely with SCMU.
The Supply Chain Assistant also interacts with the members of the inter-agency Supply Chain/Logistics Task Team under OMT. External contacts are mainly involving suppliers, including providing administrative support in communication with suppliers and following up on requests and documentation. In close collaboration with the other members of the Supply Chain Team, processing custom clearance involves external contacts with the local partners concerned.
This position strengthens the supply chain function in the field, provides support to humanitarian response in the duty station as well as nearby areas that could be prone to emergencies and manages the warehouses where required.
Under the overall guidance of the Deputy Representative, the position reports directly to the Supply Chain Specialist and has a dotted reporting line to Herat Area Coordinator/GBViE.

Job Purpose:
Under the overall guidance of the Deputy Representative and the direct supervision of the Supply Chain Specialist, the Supply Chain Assistant ensures execution of transparent, policy and procedure compliant, supply chain services and processes in the CO. The Supply Chain Assistant promotes a client-focused, quality and results-oriented approach in the CO.
The Supply Chain Assistant works in close collaboration with the Operations, Programme staff in the CO, Area Office and UNFPA Supply Chain Management Unit, providing administrative and logistical support and facilitating information exchange related to supply chain activities.

Education:
Completed Secondary Level Education required.
Languages:
Fluency in English and local language Dari and/or Pashto is required. Working knowledge of other UN languages would be an asset.
