Organizational Setting

The Department of Safeguards carries out the IAEA’s duties and responsibilities as the world’s nuclear inspectorate, supporting global efforts to stop the spread of nuclear weapons. The primary role of the Department is to develop and implement IAEA safeguards to ensure that there is no diversion of declared nuclear material from peaceful activities and no indications of undeclared nuclear material or activities in a State as a whole. 

The Department comprises nuclear safeguards inspectors, responsible for carrying out inspections and verifications of all-safeguards relevant information for nuclear facilities in over 180 States; and technical staff responsible for a wide range of activities including: developing concepts and approaches for implementing safeguards; developing and maintaining safeguards equipment; providing analytical and laboratory services for sample analysis; collecting, evaluating and analysing safeguards-relevant information; providing information and communication technology infrastructure and services; and providing programme coordination support. The Division of Technical and Scientific Services ensures the provision of state-of-the-art equipment and related expertise for the accomplishment of the Department of Safeguards activities. Within this mandate, the Division is responsible for procurement, testing, provision, inventory control, performance monitoring and maintenance of safeguards equipment and supplies required by SGO Divisions; management of equipment development and engineering activities to meet quality and safeguards requirements; development and provision of documentation, procedures, instrumentation methods and techniques; provision of specialized technical and scientific support to inspectors and inspection activities in the field and at headquarters; and, radiation contamination monitoring of returned equipment and timely write-off of obsolete or contaminated equipment. The Division also coordinates departmental health and safety activities.

Main Purpose

Reporting to the Team Leader, the Logistics and Equipment Management Technician provides first-level support for client queries and attends to routine and standard service requests addressed to the Support Centre Team. The Logistics and Equipment Management Technician maintains records of activities, utilizing approved tools and databases for service request management, inventory control, and equipment performance tracking. The services provided by the Logistics and Equipment Management Technician encompass asset information management activities and may include the processing of Low Value Purchasing (LVP) requests for the Division within delegated and authorized limits, support s3w shipments, warehousing, or preparation of specific equipment and supplies.

Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Operate the Front Desk and act as the customer-interface for the distribution of equipment and related supplies to all departmental staff. 

  • Monitor, categorize and steward service-related requests for the Division, including inspection equipment incidents and safeguards’ Occupational Health and Safety incidents, ensuring they are promptly assigned for action and efficiently processed. 

  • Perform asset registration, life cycle asset management, impairment and write-off implementation; support asset verification activities. 

  • Administer Low Value Purchasing for the Division and complete other administrative tasks such as processing travel arrangements, office space management, and equipment clearances for staff transferring within or leaving the Department. 

  • Perform assigned logistical duties, including warehouse activities, placing procurements, receiving goods, performing standard quality checks of procured goods, organizing storage, distributing, and maintaining inventory control for equipment and supplies. 

  • Provide training, advice and support to other SGTS teams on activities in accordance with the SGTS Tiered Model for the provision of technical services. 


In addition, and as assigned, the Logistics and Equipment Management Technician may perform some of the following activities: 

  • Execute routine shipments, including creating and managing shipment files, issuing required documents; liaising with requestors, divisional staff, colleagues in the Division of General Services (MTGS), freight forwarders, and other stakeholders to execute shipments; and validating the applied rates prior to approving service payments. 

  • Test, record and prepare passive seals and removable media for safeguards use. 

  • Receive, verify and report passive seals; retrieve and upload data from removable media. 


The duties might include manual handling of bulky items. The incumbent is expected to follow systems of work in place for their health and safety, ensuring the correct use of any equipment provided for their health and safety, including lifting equipment. Medical clearance by VIC Medical Service might be required.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

  • Completed secondary education. IATA – Dangerous Goods Regulation (personnel category 1) certificate an asset. ADR driving licence an asset. Technical education an asset.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant work experience, preferably in an international environment, including experience in providing customer services. 
  • Understanding of asset management approaches including asset identification, physical counting and reconciliation. 
  • Proven experience in database management, data retrieval applications and document management. 
  • Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
  • Testing to IAEA standard may be part of the process.
     

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 59439 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), 6 weeks' annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance.
