The International Fund for Agricultural Development is a specialized UN agency and international financial institution that invests in rural people — smallholder farmers, women and youth — in developing countries. Headquartered in Rome, IFAD employs agricultural economists, rural finance specialists, programme officers, environmental experts and legal advisors. IFAD finances and implements programmes and projects that raise agricultural productivity, generate employment and increase rural incomes. As one of the Rome-Based Agencies alongside FAO and WFP, IFAD offers roles at headquarters and through country programme officers stationed in beneficiary countries.
