Work Location

Duties and Responsibilities

The UN Office of Data Protection and Privacy (ODPP) is recruiting interns for its office located in New York. We are seeking highly motivated applicants who wish to gain professional experience in the field of Data Protection and Privacy within an international organisation in order to supplement their knowledge, skills, and studies. This internship will provide practical experience in the field of data protection and privacy in a multicultural intergovernmental organization. Under supervision of Data Protection and Privacy Officer, interns are assigned to projects and tasks that provide opportunities to apply and further develop their knowledge. It is important that candidates familiarize themselves with the functions and the mandate of ODPP described at ST/SGB/2024/3 and make an informed decision that best suits their interests and qualifications. Responsibilities of internship positions range widely, encompassing many aspects of Data Protection and Privacy work and may include, but are not limited to: • Assistance in conducting research on issues related to data protection and privacy laws, Secretary General’s Bulletins, UN Resolutions, or other areas of specialization • Assistance in the review of documents, instruments, and other material • Assistance in drafting and preparing official documents and templates • Attending and taking notes at conferences and meetings • Assistance in servicing conferences and meetings • Working on websites and/or presentations • Performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Click or tap here to enter text.and MS Teams. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts in desirable. Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
