Duties and Responsibilities
This Internship is open for nationals of Colombia only. The Strategic Communications and Public Information unit is mandated to promote a better public understanding of the UNVMC’s mandate and to support its political standing by managing relations with national and international media, establishing strategic partnerships, organizing events, managing the website, social media, and printed materials. The unit is also responsible for internal communications, keeping the UNVMC staff abreast of new developments, policies, and guidance as well as countering misinformation. From HQ, the unit coordinates public information and outreach activities carried out by the regional offices. This internship is located in the Strategic Communications and Public Information Unit, Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General (OSRSG), United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC). The Intern reports to the Chief of the Unit. The intern will assist the team in strengthening the Mission’s public image by helping to produce materials and carrying out day by day communications tasks to explain the Mission’s mandate and the implementation of the Final Agreement. Tasks will include: Support with the creation of multimedia and graphic products such as videos, brochures, infographics, images, presentations, posts for social media and others related to the UNVMC’s Communications strategy, focus on the mandates, editing and postproduction (Adobe Premier, Adobe after Effects). Assistance with gathering of information and designing internal communication materials, such as the mission’s quarterly newsletter. Media monitoring. Support for the implementation of outreach activities. Assistance with photographic coverage of the mission’s internal and external activities. Support in the photo and image editing for all digital and print material. Other tasks as needed by the department.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in Social Communication, Journalism or Graphic Design. (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in Social Communication, Journalism or Graphic Design. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Experience in animation and Adobe Creative Suite, After Effects, Premier, Photoshop, Illustrator, typography and/or composition is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required for the internship. Working knowledge of English is desirable.
