Duties and Responsibilities
Develop country-specific HRDDP risk assessments for GSF T/PCCs to inform UNSOH’s support for the GSF and the United Nations Trust Fund for MSS/GSF. The consultant will work under the direct supervision of an HRDDP Adviser in the Peace Missions Support Section of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (PMSS/OHCHR) and the overall supervision of the Chief of the PMSS/OHCHR. At the end of the consultancy, these country-specific HRDDP risk assessments for all GSF T/PCCs should be delivered, developed through extensive consultation processes, including with United Nations Department of Operational Support (DOS) and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The consultant may also be assigned additional HRDDP-related tasks related to United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) and the Trust Fund, as required.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree in international relations, human rights and related fields. A first level university degree with relevant combination of academic qualifications and an additional two years of experience in a related area may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of seven years of work experience in the field of law, international or political affairs or related subject matter is required. Experience with the UN, in particular with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Department of Peace Operations (DPO), Department of Operational Support (DOS) or Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) is desirable. Evidence of a track record in peacekeeping or human rights and solid experience in coordinating the implementation of the United Nations Human Rights Due Diligence Policy (HRDDP); performing risk assessments, liaising with the military, police and other relevant components of mission in the context of HRDDP implementation is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
