Org. Setting and Reporting
The position is located in the Partnerships Communications Unit, within the Public Engagement Section of the Communications Branch of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response efforts. OCHA's mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention and facilitate sustainable solutions. The Associate Communications Officer/Content Creator is responsible for supporting the development and the execution of communication strategies to promote and help deliver on the organization's advocacy, visibility and fundraising objectives and outcomes. The Associate Communications Officer/Content Creator is responsible for conducting a wide range of tasks. Depending on the organizational setting, these may include implementing communications strategies, monitoring, digital campaigns and analytics, internal communications, outreach, and advocacy. This position-specific job opening is being advertised for the position of Associate Communications Officer/Content Creator in the Hague, in the Netherlands. Under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Public Engagement Section, OCHA in the Netherlands, the incumbent reports to the head of the Partnerships Communications Unit.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Associate Communications Officer/Content Creator will be responsible for the following duties: • Contribute to gathering insights and analysis from traditional, social, and digital media monitoring, including public narratives and areas of reputational risk to inform communications strategy. • Contribute to the implementation of communications strategies that raise awareness, drive engagement, build support and have measurable impact with target audiences. • Contribute to the creation of compelling content that is optimized to reach target audiences across a range of platforms and channels. • Contribute to development and coordination of strategic communications partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to reach target audiences and maximize impact. • Keep abreast of the latest trends in communications and maintain expertise in relevant and emerging technologies. • Create and moderate engaging and platform-optimized content, including live content, tailored for social media and other digital platforms to advance digital communications priorities and campaigns work. • Assist in the development of creative campaign concepts, content, and materials, including digital and print assets, social media posts, email communications, and multimedia content. • Assist in ensuring that all communication and campaign materials effectively convey the impact of the organization's work and comply with the organization's standards and branding.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in communications, journalism, international relations, digital communications or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A first-level university degree and no experience will be accepted for candidates who have passed the Young Professionals Programme Examination/United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P).

Knowledge of Digital Design is required. Skills in developing creative content is required. Knowledge of current and emerging digital media platforms, their principles and technologies is desirable.
