Duties and Responsibilities

Communications, events and knowledge outreach internship (2 positions). The internship is located in the Outreach Unit of the UN Library and Archives Geneva. It provides an opportunity for exposure to knowledge management, communications, cultural diplomacy and outreach in an intergovernmental setting, and for developing further an understanding of the issues on the UN agenda and of the work of the international system in Geneva.   The daily responsibilities may include but are not limited to: ·       Contributing to the development and implementation of the UN Library and Archives Geneva communications strategy, including assisting with preparation of drafts for social media, multimedia/podcast production and promoting engagement. ·       Assisting in the organization and servicing of events, workshops, and meetings, including the development of innovative formats, recordkeeping, and follow-up. ·       Providing support on additional tasks as needed.

Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Interested candidates must be pursuing or must have pursued their degree in Library Science, Communications, Public Relations, Social Sciences, International Relations, Information Technology or another field related to this Job Opening. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Experience in drafting communications and social media posts is desirable.  Experience in video production and editing is desirable. Experience in podcast editing is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship advertised, fluency in English is required and knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of an additional United Nations official language is an asset (Arabic, Chinese, English, Russian and Spanish).
