Duties and Responsibilities

The consultant will support the EU funded project on Supporting the INtegration of GEospatial and STatistical data across the UNECE region (INGEST phase II). It will build on the outcome of the first phase of the project. In particular, the consultant will: 1. Serve as the secretariat of the UNECE Task Force on improving the interoperability of statistical and geospatial information through using common standards and to develop concrete strategies to establish sustainable collaborative activities between national statistical and geospatial organisations such as: - Collecting and dentifying good practices in applying common standards and in setting up successful collaboration activities. - To develop guidelines on how to effectively setup joint activities (based on the findings of a) and by using the various standards and frameworks that have been developed. - Develop and test tools for geospatial and statistical organizations to aid setting up such joint activities. 2. Organise the second joint UNECE / Eurostat / UN-GGIM: Europe Workshop on Integrating Statistical and Geospatial Data in 2026. 3. Assess two countries in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia region to assess their ability to integrate geospatial and statistical data, involving their National Statistical Organisations and National Mapping and Cadastral Agencies using and testing tools and recommendations developed under INGEST phase I and under activity 1b and 1c and to provide recommendations on improving the national capacity for data integration 4. Present project updates and outcomes at relevant workshop, the INGEST webspace, INGEST blog, and INGEST LinkedIn posts. 5. Report on the project progress, implementation and outcomes to the relevant United Nations platforms and to the Donor as defined in the project reporting and communication plan. The work will be guided by UNECE and built on earlier activities and should also provide the structure and modality of follow-up national and sub-regional technical cooperation on the same topic. It might also include presenting and promoting the outcome of this work and/or to get feedback on it, at relevant (online and in-person) conferences. Layout and format of the guidelines will be coordinated with UNECE and editorial guidance will be provided by UNECE staff. The work of the Task Force will mainly take place remotely and through online meetings (or in the margin of other events where Task Force members travel to). Travel in the UNECE region is foreseen under items 2) to 4). Costs will be covered by the project based on United Nations standards.

Qualifications/special skills

An advanced degree in Statistics or geospatial information or a related field. At least 7 years experience in a national or international statsticial or geopspatial organisation. Familiarity with statistical and geospatial activites required.
