The Position:

The Communications Analyst is responsible for planning and design of internal and external strategies and plans for communications. 

You will guide and facilitate implementation and reviews of a transformative communication strategy, and partnering with online, broadcast and print media, as well as national and local institutions to upscale the coverage of sexual and reproductive health, gender-based violence, youth and demographic resilience issues in Ukraine. 

You will report to the Communications Specialist.

Job Purpose:

UNFPA in Ukraine new Country Programme Document (2025-2029) reflects a strong nexus approach, bridging immediate humanitarian response with recovery and long-term development. This positions UNFPA to address urgent needs today while also contributing to human development and sustainable systems strengthening now and into the future. 

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Communications Specialist, the Communication Analyst will deliver a range of communications activities, providing research and analysis, and prioritizing effectively. The Specialist is responsible to ensure that UNFPA in Ukraine can  deliver operational excellence in the area of communications.   

You would be responsible for:

A. Planning, design and execution of internal and external strategies for communications

  • Facilitate planning, implementation and reviews of the Country Office’s communication strategies based on the overarching UNFPA communication strategy that serves as a key pillar of the UNFPA in Ukraine Country Programme Document (2025-2029) and the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Regional Programme.
  • Provide constructive advice on incorporation of advocacy and communication components into all aspects of UNFPA’s programme. 

B. Elaboration and implementation of the CO content strategy and plan

  • Guide and facilitate elaboration and implementation of the CO content strategy and plan based on the corporate publication policy. 
  • Identify and develop sample storylines for publication and substantive articles and opinion pieces contributing to debates on key issues at the core of UNFPA’s mandate. 
  • Coordinate and oversee the CO publication activities, including content management, adherence to norms for design and publishing, liaison with printers and other suppliers to oversee production and supervision of dissemination.

C. Maintenance of the Country Office website, web-based knowledge management system and social media platforms

  • Oversee the office’s digital channels based on corporate requirements in cooperation with the ICT staff. 
  • Oversee and prepare the content for the office website ensuring consistency of the materials according to UNFPA branding.
  • Guide and facilitate elaboration and implementation of a digital communications      strategy leading. 

D. Partnership, Advocacy and Resource Mobilization

  • Develop and maintain close contacts with national counterparts, donors, civil society and private sector for the implementation of the communication and publication strategies.
  • Engage with the UN partners on forging a “One UN” image as feasible, through publicizing the significance of the local UN endeavours, joint programmes, common services and value-added role of UNFPA. 
  • Provide tangible contributions to UN Communications group meetings, donor meetings and related public information events. 
  • Prepare relevant documentation, including project summaries, conference papers, speeches and donor profiles. 
  • Format package and submit newsletters and programme updates for development partners and donors in close collaboration with programme staff. 

E. Media Engagement and Campaigns 

  • Organize public information and promotional campaigns on UNFPA activities to position UNFPA as a leader within the development space and social media. 
  • Facilitate promotion and dissemination of corporate advocacy materials for launching flagship initiatives and publications. 
  • Ensure that key office and programme events, success stores and good practices highlighting the value-added roles of partners and attribution are communicated through local and social media. 

F. Knowledge Building and Management

  • Ensure strategic documentation of good practices and innovative programme endeavors in close collaboration with the programme teams, field offices, UN communications group, and Regional and Headquarter offices.
  • Provide substantial contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice including corporate communications repositories.
  • Organize trainings for and provide constructive advice to programme and operations staff on communications issues. 

Carry out any other duties as may be required by UNFPA leadership. 
 

Qualifications and Experience: 

Education:  

  • Advanced university degree in communications, media relations, journalism or relevant social sciences.

Knowledge and Experience: 

  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible professional experience at the national or international level in public relations, communications or advocacy;
  • Substantive knowledge and practical experience in communication strategy development;
  • Strong media contacts and proven success pitching stories to media outlets;
  • Excellent research and writing skills, with experience writing reports, newsletters and programme updates, video production and developing web content;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, good knowledge and experience in handling of web-based management systems (Drupal is a plus);
  • Client oriented and strong team work;
  • Proficiency in current office software applications;
  • Knowledge of the UN system would be an advantage. 

Languages: 

  • Fluency in English and Ukrainian; knowledge of other official UN languages is desirable.
