BACKGROUND
The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization Regional Office in Bangkok and Office for UN Coordination for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCO Bangkok), established in 1961 and evolving in roles over the years, oversees UNESCO's programs in education, natural sciences, ocean sciences, social and human sciences, culture, and communication and information across seven countries: Afghanistan, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam. It coordinates national activities through offices in Kabul, Phnom Penh, Ha Noi, and Yangon (antenna office). As a key player in regional educational coordination and capacity development, UNESCO Bangkok leads the SDG4-Education 2030 Agenda covering 46 Member States and three Associate Members.
MAIN TASKS AND SERVICES
Under the authority of the Regional Director of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Regional Office in Bangkok and the Office for UN Coordination in Asia and the Pacific, and direct supervision of Chief of Administration and Finance Office, working in close collaboration with the UNESCO IT team, the IT Assistant provides technical support to the Office.
The Position focuses on various information technology support duties to ensure the smooth delivery of corporate IT services, Online and Hybrid Events and Digital Media Support.
The incumbent is responsible for understanding the corporate setup, rules, regulations, and policy and fulfilling all the needed competencies, skills and certifications.
Key functions, accountabilities and related duties or tasks include:
1. IT and End-user Support Services
The Service Contract Holder will provide first line IT assistance to ensure continuity of daily operations and effective use of UNESCO systems and tools.
1.1 Deliver first line IT support to users, addressing hardware, software, connectivity, and collaboration tool issues, including those directly related to online and hybrid events.
1.2 Respond to incident calls and service requests, resolving issues at the first point of contact where possible and escalating more complex cases in line with established procedures.
1.3 Carry out scheduled service requests such as equipment installation and removal, hardware replacement, software deployment, LAN connections, site surveys, and equipment return to stock.
1.4 Accurately document all support actions and outcomes in the automated tracking system, ensuring clear records of issues, resolutions, and follow-up actions.
1.5 Provide basic guidance and on-the-job training to end-user on standard UNESCO applications, systems, and digital collaboration platforms, with particular attention to tools used for virtual and hybrid meetings.
1.6 Identify recurring issues or systemic weaknesses and propose practical improvements to enhance service quality, reliability, and user experience.
DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT
The Service Contract assignment is for 12 months, tentatively from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. (Initial three (3) months probationary period.)
Extension of the Service Contract is subject to satisfactory performance, continued need of the services/tasks and availability of funds.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Completed secondary education (High School Diploma or equivalent) and/or Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in IT support or service desk functions (for candidates with secondary education), or
- Minimum 1–2 years of relevant experience (for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree).
- Experience should preferably include:
o End-user IT support (hardware, software, networks)
o Support for online/hybrid meetings, AV systems, or conferencing platforms
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Strong knowledge of:
- Windows OS (desktop environment); basic knowledge of Linux is an asset
- Network fundamentals (LAN/Wi-Fi, basic security concepts)
- Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Office apps, PowerBI)
- Practical experience with:
o Audio-visual (AV) systems and conferencing tools (e.g., MS Teams, Zoom, hybrid meeting setups)
o Basic troubleshooting of IT and AV equipment
• Working knowledge of basic multimedia tools (e.g., video editing, graphics preparation) is an asset
LANGUAGES
• Excellent knowledge of English and Thai (spoken and written).
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Relevant certifications such as:
o Microsoft (e.g., Azure, M365, Endpoint)
o Networking or AV-related certifications
WORK EXPERIENCE
- IT service management tools / ticketing systems
- Microsoft administrative tools (e.g., Intune, Active Directory)
- Support for international meetings, conferences, and hybrid events

LANGUAGES
• Knowledge of other official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) would be an asset.
