Duties and Responsibilities
ITC’s Green and Inclusive Value Chains (GIVC) within the Division for Sustainable and Inclusive Trade (DSIT) is seeking an intern to support the workstreams on deforestation-free value chains and on agribusiness. ITC’s work on Deforestation-free Value Chains sits in the Trade for Sustainable Development (T4SD) team and has grown significantly over the past years. From the successful roundtables that commenced in 2022, we are currently implementing key projects under the Team Europe Initiative on Deforestation-free Value Chains, such as the Deforestation-free Trade Gateway (DFTG) in Latin America and the ATLAS Project (Advancing Traceability, Legality and Sustainability in Indonesia’s palm oil and timber sectors) and are contributing to EUDR readiness under several ITC projects in different African and Asian countries. In this context, it is crucial for ITC to capture impact stories to showcase the added value ITC’s work has in this space. ITC’s agribusiness work under the Alliances for Action (A4A) framework supports the development of inclusive and sustainable agricultural value chains, with a focus on strengthening market systems, facilitating partnerships, and enhancing regional trade. In this context, ITC is advancing key workstreams and initiatives, which require analytical, coordination, and knowledge development support. The intern will support both workstreams equally and will work under the overall guidance of the Senior Adviser to Green and Inclusive Value Chains (GIVC) at ITC. They will carry out the following duties, with a focus deforestation-free Value Chains: - Capture impact success stories in context of the work on EUDR/ deforestation-free value Chains in support of the revised topic page on deforestation-free Value Chains o Interviewing colleagues, partners and beneficiaries around our work o Capture impact stories for our web presence, social media and thereby increase the visibility of ITC’s work - Support the structuring and consolidation of knowledge products related to deforestation-free value chains, including mapping existing tools, guidance materials, and project outputs to strengthen ITC’s thematic positioning. - Support the preparation and follow-up of events, webinars and stakeholder dialogues related to deforestation-free value chains, including drafting concept notes, preparing communication materials, and summarizing discussions. For agribusiness, the following duties are foreseen: • Contribute to the development of a roadmap and strategic planning documents in the infant food sector • Support the preparation and finalisation of PowerPoint presentations and knowledge products • Assist in the launch of the Expression of Interest (EoI) for agribusiness SMEs • Conduct background research, including: o Market analysis o Stakeholder mapping o Review of relevant reports and sector studies o Synthesize findings into concise inputs for internal documents and presentations Learning Elements: This is a unique opportunity to learn about our work supporting the EU Green Deal, in particular the EUDR and its practical implications for small business in producing countries. It further provides space for the candidate to contextualise the EUDR in the broader context of forest conservation, deforestation-free value chains and international treaties and policies. Learning Elements: This internship offers hands-on experience in agricultural value chain development and regional agribusiness initiatives. The selected candidate will gain exposure to project design and implementation processes, stakeholder engagement, and the development of strategic and knowledge products in an international context.
