Reporting Lines
For Headquarters-based assignments, the Supply Chain Expert reports administratively, operationally, and technically to the designated Head of Supply Chain Orchestration team (CSLO).
Technical Focus
Specialized supply chain design, coordination, process improvement, and capacity development in support of FAO supply chain expansion and orchestration initiatives.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Lead defined workstreams within broader supply chain action plan initiatives, working with a high level of independence and minimal technical guidance.
- Provide specialized technical inputs to end-to-end supply chain planning, coordination, and performance monitoring initiatives.
- Contribute to the design and refinement of supply chain processes, tools, and operating procedures, adapting concepts to emerging operational needs.
- Conduct operational diagnostics and process mapping, identify bottlenecks and control gaps, and propose practical improvements and new approaches.
- Support change management and rollout activities, including stakeholder engagement, communications, and transition planning.
- Contribute to system enhancement work by gathering user needs, drafting requirements, supporting testing, and enabling user adoption.
- Design and deliver training and capacity development activities, such as workshops, guidance materials, and on-the-job coaching.
- Document lessons learned and best practices and contribute to reusable knowledge products.
- Supervise or provide technical guidance to junior affiliate personnel as needed.
- Any other related tasks assigned by the Supervisor.
Minimum Requirements
- For Consultants: Advanced university degree in supply chain management, logistics, procurement, business administration, economics, or a closely related field. Consultants with a bachelor's degree need two additional years of relevant professional experience.
For PSA: University degree in supply chain management, logistics, procurement, business administration, economics or a related field. - At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in supply chain, logistics, operations, or related areas, preferably with the UN.

Technical/Functional Skills
- Solid experience in end-to-end supply chain and logistics management, including planning, coordination, transport operations, warehousing, and emergency logistics preparedness.
- Demonstrated ability to provide specialized technical inputs to supply chain design, process improvement, business engagement, or capacity development initiatives.
- Experience contributing to or leading process mapping, analysis, and improvement activities, and adapting supply chain concepts to evolving operational needs.
- Strong competence in data analysis, performance management, and data use (advanced Excel; dashboarding and reporting experience desirable).
- Ability to translate operational problems into structured recommendations, with clear sequencing and practical adoption steps.
- Strong facilitation and stakeholder management skills, including ability to align diverse viewpoints into workable solutions.
- Experience supporting or managing project or operational budgets, including cost tracking and financial reporting.
- Familiarity with humanitarian or development supply chain contexts, including understanding of operational environments is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of other FAO official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is preferred.

- Experience in training development and facilitation, or change management is an asset.
- Strong drafting and communication skills, including the ability to produce clear frameworks, SOPs, guidance, and executive-ready products.
- Advanced facilitation, negotiation, and stakeholder management, including influence at senior levels and across functions.
- Experience working with, or alongside, UN agencies or comparable international organizations is an asset.
- Ability to operate independently, managing priorities, and delivering high quality outputs to deadline.
