Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Head of Office or a designated communications officer, the Intern will: • Translate complex geodesy, GNSS, satellite-based positioning, and Earth observation concepts into accessible visual narratives for technical, policy, and non-technical audiences. • Develop data visualizations, diagrams, workflows, and SmartArt-style graphics to explain geodetic systems, data flows, and their relevance to sustainable development and the SDGs. • Enhance and update existing UN-GGCE communication materials to improve clarity, consistency, and visual impact, in line with United Nations branding and accessibility standards. • Support outreach activities, including visual content for events, workshops, and capacity-building initiatives. • Design and develop digital and print communication materials, including infographics, brochures, factsheets, newsletters, presentations, and selected web and social media graphics. • Collaborate closely with technical colleagues to ensure that all visual outputs are scientifically accurate and technically sound. • Perform other related communication and outreach tasks as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

The field of study must be in graphic design, visual communication, multimedia design, information design, communications, or a related field. Cadidates must: • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants with a background in geospatial sciences, geography, environmental sciences, or Earth observation, combined with demonstrated design and visualization skills, are strongly encouraged to apply.
