Background

UNDP Jordan's 2023-2027 country programme seeks to support national efforts in enhancing people’s resilience in Jordan through robust interventions that increase people's equal access to sustainable resources, enhance green growth opportunities, and advance democratic governance, implementing a portfolio approach cutting across three outcomes focused on systematic transformation in three priority areas: (a) prosperous and productive people; (b) green and safe future pathways for climate action; and (c) holistic and transformative systems/policies and capacities across all sectors.

In 2019, UNDP with funding from the Ministry of Environment/Badia Restoration Program and in collaboration with the Jordan Cooperative Corporation commenced the The “Improving livelihoods of Sheep owners in the Jordan Badia through Enhancing Sheep Wool Saleability and Profitability” project aiming at promoting Sustainable Livelihoods in Jordan Badia through enhancing production and quality of sheep wool. The strategy to achieve the goal has four interlinked components; Establishment of Shearing Service; Establishment of Collection Centers (Hubs) Facilities; Enhancing domestic Use of the Sheared Wool and Provision of necessary Training and Awareness.

A major component of this project is the establishment of the wool collection hub in Al Qutrana, which will centralize the processing and distribution of the sheared sheep wool collected from all three Badia regions (Northern, Middle and Southern). The role of driver is crucial for ensuring efficient and effective transportation and logistics management of wool from collection points in the Badia regions to the hub.
