Duties and Responsibilities

BACKGROUND The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty. Within the framework of this initiative, the hiring of a Junior Communications Assistant is required to provide support the administrative and finance team and other tasks that are required for the proper functioning of the Andean Countries HUB. RESPONSABILITIES Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator for Andean Countries, the Junior Communications Assistant: a.) Information and validation: • The consultant will be responsible for keeping the HUB Coordinator informed and having to obtain validation of his/her activities during the consultancy. b.) Development: · Implement the social media content calendar aligned with UN-Habitat's communication strategy. · Develop products for various formats (web, social media platforms, advertising promotion and broadcast media) to disseminate the activities and results, as well as key concepts derived from UN-Habitat HUB Andean Countries Projects and adjust them to different target audiences. · Create engaging social media posts (text, images, and videos) across multiple platforms (e.g., Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn). · Monitor social media channels for engagement, comments, and mentions, responding appropriately. · Analyze social media performance metrics and provide recommendations for improvement. · Support the development of communication materials, such as brochures, flyers, and presentations. · Contribute to the creation of visual content, including infographics, photos, and videos. · Assist in the organization of media events and press conferences. · Assist in the articulation between partners to broaden the scope of social media campaigns. · Design and elaborate massive mailing campaigns and analyze its metrics. · Support the elaboration of capacity strengthening presentations/workshops for communication skills aimed to UN-Habitat HUB Andean Countries’ core team. · Support in the completion of journalistic reports on online and offline platforms on topics related to UN-Habitat HUB Andean Countries with the purpose of incorporating the message and the topics of the campaign into all events and relevant products. In addition, he/she must perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor, as necessary. c.) Others: · Other activities requested and by mutual agreement with the HUB Coordinator of The Andean Countries of UN-Habitat, within the framework of this consultancy and without prejudice to the achievement of its responsibilities. · The consultant will participate in work and follow-up meetings, both with other consultants, as well as with the Coordinator and team of the Andean Countries HUB of UN-Habitat and with the staff of the projects. · The consultant shall be responsible for ensuring that all activities comply with the principles of United Nations integrity.

Qualifications/special skills

High school diploma or equivalent is required. A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Communication, Journalism, Publicity or a related field is desirable. A Minimum six (6) months to one (1) year of experience in areas related to project management, supporting communication strategies implementation in development, humanitarian, or urban-related contexts is required. Experience within the United Nations System is desirable . Experience using standard office software such asMS Office or equivalent and digital tools is required. Knowledge on editing tools such as Canva Pro, Adobe suite (Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects), CapCut is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of another UN Official Language is desirable.
