Duties and Responsibilities

Transport Connectivity and Logistic Section of ESCAP's Transport Division supports member States in their efforts to develop sustainable regional transport connectivity in support of the implementation of SDGs. One of our key activities is the Interregional and Maritime connectivity. Our work includes promoting necessary measures to improve operational efficiency of maritime transport systems through common regional frameworks, harmonized technical and operational standards and rules, application of new technologies to enhance sustainable maritime connectivity and innovations and capacity building in maritime transport. The internship within the Transport Connectivity and Logistics Section is a full-time, UNPAID position for a minimum duration of three months, extendable up to a maximum of six months. Interns are expected to work five days per week (37.5 hours) under the supervision of a staff member within the Section. Responsibilities: The internship is either onsite in Bangkok or remote work as mutually agreed. The duties would include, but are not limited to: - Contribute to qualitative briefs/ reports on maritime transport and related issues in countries in ESCAP region while evaluating the effectiveness of such policies to sustainable development (qualitative analysis, where feasible/applicable); - Provide inputs for preparation of analysis reports particularly for maritime transport of ESCAP region by collecting information and data from authentic sources; - Identify and collect information from primary and secondary sources required for the study and select an appropriate methodology; - Coordinate and liaise, as necessary, with Transport Division experts in ESCAP, to identify key issues; - Review, analyze and compile the collected data and information, and prepare reports/briefs including the findings and conclusions, incorporating appropriate tables, graphs, charts with references; - Prepare presentations on the work or the findings and outcomes of the internship including lessons learned to the Division's staff; Undertake other work as requested in line with the background/interest; - The intern may also be asked to assist in the day-to-day work of the Division if required. She/he is expected to familiarize him/herself, to a limited extent, with administrative work of the Division and other tasks that are typical of UN organizations. Qualifications/special skills

Education: To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). .

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
